VBE/AF seemed to fit the bill, and Allegro already had support for the SciTech drivers, so it seemed like a good idea to adopt this format for ourselves
The primary goal is to make these drivers work with Allegro, so the emphasis will be on implementing the functions that Allegro actually uses, but we encourage other developers to join us in taking advantage of this excellent driver architecture

ATI's Terry Makedon on the future of the 'Chuck' patch Aug 4, 2006 at 02:33 AM by As we enter the month of August, we are still left without a WHQL driver incorporating the 'Chuck' patch which allows for the use of HDR alongside anti-aliasing in Oblivion, nor do we have a non-WHQL release of CATALYST 6.7 incorporating this functionality
So, what is the future of the 'Chuck' patch? Has it been forgotten? Of course, when it comes to ATI drivers, there's only one man to put these questions to - The 'CATALYST Maker' himself, Terry Makedon
The reason for this is simple enough - When 'Chuck' isn't busy saving the world one pixel or a time, or using his ninja skills to spy on Technical Marketing Manager Dave Baumann, he's pretty busy integrating the code from the 'Chuck' patch into official drivers to be WHQL certified, and thus it has been decided that resources are better spent there to get this ready as soon as possible rather than 'fire-fighting' by releasing a non-WHQL driver containing the 'Chuck' patch each and every month

What to do with all this GATOS project provides enhanced drivers for many videocards made by (in particular All-in-Wonder series) and a TV player/recorder application
While ultimately we would like AVview to be compatible with all video capture hardware supported by Linux at the moment it supports GATOS drivers far better than anything else
Suggestions: Take a look at the page to find out whether you have a videocard supported by this project If you decide to install drivers or subsribe to at least mailing list - it is very low traffic and is used only for announcements related to GATOS project like new software releases

Sometimes the Alsa package doesn't work right, and I think this is because parts of the Maestro sound chip are powered down and the Alsa driver doesn't know how to turn them back on
A work around is to load the kernel maestro driver (when Alsa is not loaded) with the option use_pm=0 , then unload it, and then load the Alsa modules

I have successfully used an ov511 based USB webcam, an based (the necessary driver is part of kernel 2.4.10), and the digital still camera
